If you are within an hour and a half hour drive from Kampala, you can sign up for a one-day training for your staff. This can take place during the term or during the term break. We will provide 2-3 lessons that are about 2 hours long per lesson. You can select certain topics that you would like to support your teachers in, or you can choose to do the entire program if you would like an in depth dive into providing a Christian education at your school.
If you would like to cover a complete unit, you can sign up for a two day training for our team to come out and provide a full unit to your teachers. You can select the unit that interest you or you can complete the entire program. This is perfect for administrators that want to provide professional development to their teachers during the term or during a term break. We can also include observations for the teachers if you would like feedback on their growth through our program.
The most in-depth process is our five-day training that covers two units over a one-week period. You can select two units you would like covered, or you can choose to have us complete the entire program over three term breaks. Week-long trainings only take place during the term breaks so that we can get the teacher’s full focus as the students are home. This is an amazing way to bring teachers together to learn through an intensive focused training.
Our professional development program was developed by a team of educators in the United States who had experience teaching in different African contexts. The project was piloted in Zambia and came to Uganda in 2023. The goal was to boil down a four-year degree for a primary teacher into a 6 unit course. Each unit takes between 2-3 days, so administrators can choose between a 1, 2, or 5 day schedule, depending on the distance your school is from Kampala. If you want to do the entire program, it can be taught over a one or two-year period, depending on how often the school would like us to come for training. Each lesson has a faith focus and provides hands-on instruction to help teachers experience what it means to have collaborative instruction. Our program is spreading quickly around different parts of Africa and other continents due to its in-depth content and amazing results.
Our program is designed to support schools that hold a strong focus on Christian education. The curriculum is tailored more towards primary classes, but can be utilized at the nursery and secondary level as well. The curriculum does not replace the national curriculum or the school’s curriculum, but it teaches you how to deliver the content in a more hands-on, collaborative way. We value partnering with schools that have leaders who are very invested in the growth of their teachers, so we require that the head of school attend all the trainings. We have seen the best results when the school leaders are fully invested in the training so they can help implement what is taught once they get back into the classroom. Most of our schools are private Christian schools but we also support public and international schools.
Since there are many variables to a training, we charge an additional charge for the workbooks and transportation to fit the needs of the school. We don’t want to charge a school 1 hour away the same cost as a school that is 5 hours away. We also don’t want to charge the group of 10 teachers the same as a group of 25 teachers so we decided to break down the cost separate for these two areas.

How many teachers can be in the training?
It is best if we have between 15-25 teachers in the training. This would include the administrator and support staff who are attending the training. If we get below 15 students, it can make the group work a bit more challenging and if we have more than 25 students, it becomes hard to continue with the collaborative instruction.
How much does the training cost?
We have a tailored price chart based on the distance of your school as well as the number of the teachers who are attending. Our schools are able to choose as low as a 1 day training and as high as a 3 week training so it varies depending on those areas. We have a price chart listed to break down the exact costs.
Who are the facilitators?
We have a team of facilitators who are fully trained on delivering the content. We have facilitators who are from the US as well as from Uganda. All of our facilitators have at least a bachelor’s degree in education as well as experience in the classroom. All of our facilitators are passionate Christian educators.
Do we need to change our curriculum if we do this program?
No, our curriculum provides training that supports the enhancement of the curriculum your school already utilizes with new strategies to avoid rote memorization. Our discussions, group activities, and instruction all comes through a Christian worldview.
Where is your office located?
Our Teachbeyond office is based just outside of Nasana, Wakiso Town, so we are not far from Kampala. We do our training at your school, so we will travel to you.
Hannah Thomas is our lead facilitator of the Teachbeyond Professional Development department. She double majored at Emmaus Bible College, receiving her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Bible Theology. She has also completed her Master’s in Educational Leadership from Pensacola Christian College. She has been doing ministry in Uganda since 2013 and she is passionate about helping teachers understand what it looks like to teach through a Christian worldview. She leads a team of facilitators which provides training around different parts of Uganda.
